I International Conference on Secularity
«Secularity, Religion and the Postsecular Era: Future Perspectives«
The relationship between secularity and religion has been the object of some the most complex and persistent intellectual debates in recent years. In a global context characterized by growing cultural and religious plurality, as well as the resurgence of religious identities in the public sphere, the concept of postsecularity has emerged as a key perspective to understand the intersection between the secular and the religious in our contemporary societies. Philosophy and other social sciences continue to look into the boundaries and essence of religion, spirituality, and beliefs, and their role in the public sphere, with the goal of promoting humanizing religious dynamics that contribute to the common good and avoiding those that lead to sectarian behaviors.
This conference aims to explore the contribution of religions to socio-cultural transformation, a central theme in the postsecular era. While classical secularization theories suggested a withdrawal of religion from the public sphere, what we observe today is the transformative and dynamic role of religions in social and cultural changes. Religions influence not only individual moral perspectives and practices but also collective values, politics, and public institutions, reshaping interpersonal relationships and frameworks for coexistence.
