«From Professorship to Leading in a Higher Education Organization» Carlos Losada (Canisius Formation Webinar)

This webinar was the first of two online sessions designed as a continuation of the pilot program for the Canisius Formation Course, whose in-person component took place on October 28 in Vienna. In this session, titled «From Professorship to Leading in a Higher Education Organization» given by Carlos Losada (Associate Professor, Department of General Management and Strategy at Esade; Associate Professor at URL; Researcher, GLIGP (Leadership and Innovation in Public Management Research); and Researcher, ESADEgov – Center for Public Governance), participants reconnected to continue the reflections initiated in Vienna.

On this occasion, Carlos Losada explored the evolution of the managerial role in higher education, highlighting the shift from academic to managerial responsibilities. He emphasized the challenges of transitioning to dynamic roles requiring adaptability, emotional intelligence, and prioritizing depth in problem-solving. Losada discussed the fragmented and intense nature of managerial work, the critical role of interpersonal relationships, and the impact of new technologies on communication. He stressed balancing human connections with strategic tasks and managing workloads to prevent burnout. Reflecting on the Jesuit tradition, he underscored discernment, sensitivity, and action-oriented leadership as essential for effective management in higher education.
