The Group on Meaningful Learning is a community of practice within the Kircher Network that brings together faculty members committed to strengthening pedagogical excellence inspired by the Ignatian tradition. Its mission is to foster meaningful, values-based teaching and learning that promotes the integral formation of students, preparing them to become engaged, responsible global citizens.
Grounded in the Jesuit educational vision, the group seeks to serve as a collaborative platform for academic reflection, training, and the exchange of experiences and best practices that make learning truly engaging—whether through Ignatian pedagogy, Service Learning, COIL, virtual or hybrid methodologies, or other creative approaches.
The Group on Meaningful Learning has supported the organization of two faculty workshops:
“Meaningful Pedagogy for Engaged Citizens of the World,” organised by the ICAM on its campus in Toulouse (2024), explored engaged learning, international collaboration, and interdisciplinary approaches.
“Sustainability, Active Pedagogy and Global Citizenship,” organised by the Faculty of Philosophy & Social Sciences of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in its campus in Braga (2025), which focused on pedagogies promoting sustainability, active engagement, and global citizenship.
