New Secretary for Higher Education of the Society of Jesus assumed office

The Kircher Network congratulates and welcomes Fr Joseph Christie, SJ, for being appointed Secretary for Higher Education of the Society of Jesus and Chair of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Jesuit Universities (IAJU).

We are very grateful to Fr Michael J. Garanzini, SJ, for his leadership in creating and running the International Association of Jesuit Universities during the last nine years, and for being an extraordinary companion, and an example of Ignatian leadership as well.

Fr Christie comes to this position with a long and rich academic and administrative experience. Currently, he is the Director and Professor of Decision Sciences at XLRI – Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur, one of the leading business schools in India. In addition, for nearly two decades, he was associated with the Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA), Chennai, as Professor, Dean and Director of the Institute.

He was also involved for many years in the province’s administration in various capacities — convener of Coordinator of Ministries, Province Development Director, Acting Socius to Provincial and Local Superior.

He holds a Master’s in Mathematical Statistics from Madras University, India. He also earned his MBA and PhD in Business Administration with specialization in Decision Sciences from St. Louis University, USA.

With his strategic planning and evaluation expertise, he has been involved in numerous studies both in India and abroad, such as province apostolic planning, diocesan pastoral planning, Ignatian Scholars Project, evaluation of institutions, programs, and ministries.

Fr Christie is a member of many advisory boards and committees. Presently he is the President of Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI) – an association of all Jesuit Business Schools in India and the Treasurer of the International Association of Jesuit Business Schools (IAJBS).
